The Giver
I have read the book The Giver twice, and watched the movie in class. The Giver is a perfect dystopian story. It comes up with this "perfect" world where everything is the same as in colors, equality, and race, nobody gets any choices, and there are no real feelings or emotions. There is one person in the community called "The Receiver". This one person holds all of the memories, and true history to the world. He or she can then be called upon to make important decisions based on previous experiences that others don't have. As I am reflecting on this, It almost seems like the giver could be reflecting God just a little bit. All people are blind to true beauty and love, but the giver knows of all of these things. This seems very similar to our world, where God is all knowing, and is beginning to share the beauty with us if we choose to accept it. I doubt that this was the intent of the writer, but this story always makes me think of our all knowing God above.
